Then BMW started making automobiles and these enthusiasts didn't want to use the same "nickname", so the the term "bimmer" was born. "Beemer" or "beamer" can be used to describe BMW vehicles with two wheels (aka motorcycles) and "bimmer" is used to describe automobiles which have four wheels. ;)
